2022 Nominations for Paddler of the Year |
||
|
|
|
Richard Clews |
Tim Haines |
Paul
Harwood |
Richard is actively involved in the club. He is the Junior
coordinator organising and running junior sessions weekly. He also helps with
the Junior Polo sessions. Richard helps at the pool sessions most weeks. He
has really enjoyed longer endurance sessions and the Hilbre Island race.
Richard has been a regular at Polo training and has played in Division 3. He
is helpful, friendly and always happy to have a
chat. |
I probably would not have nominated in this category
until Tim Haines completed his solo crossing to the Isle of Man. I’m aware of what such an open crossing
takes to undertake solo. To turn your
back on the land and paddle off-shore is very
committing and requires good confidence in your paddling ability. That’s the
solo trip of the year for me and an inspiration to others. |
I nominate Paul Harwood as paddler of the year. He's a
great paddler and a good ambassador for the sport. He always has great humour
and he's good fun to be with on the water. He has developed C1 freestyle and has designed saddles
to convert kayaks to C1. He also made
it onto the GB squad for the World freestyle championships this year. |

|
|
Harry Ruggles |
Craig Stoba |
|
I
nominate Harry Ruggles for paddler of the year. Not only has Harry returned from paddling
as a junior around 12 months ago but to reach the standard he currently
paddles at shows that he is a natural paddler. He took the Scotland Bank Holiday Trip by
storm paddling triple steps on the Etive.
He is a genuinely nice guy that just enjoys his paddling. |
I would like to nominate Craig Stoba
as paddler of the year. He now enjoys his paddling despite a horrific start
on the river Dee which almost resulted in him drowning and being pinned under
the first tree. He has not given up
and has continued to stick at it and has now learnt to roll successfully and
is developing his confidence every week.
Not unsurprisingly he has an ongoing fear of white water
but he continues to push the boundaries by paddling most weeks. |

2022 Nominations for Young Paddler of the Year |

|
Elliot Bold |
Poppy Clews |
Laura Evans |
I would like to nominate Elliot Bold for junior paddler
of the year. He has an impressive ability to consolidate coaching, which has
led to him acquiring a high level of ability on white water in only one year.
He has gone from a first-time paddler on the lower Tryweryn to confidently
running the upper Tryweryn and the rivers paddled during the 2022 Alps holiday.
He increasingly feels a commitment to the club and will
continue for skill development with a view to acquiring a flat-water coaching
qualification to help introduce young people to the sport. |
Poppy
has worked hard on her Polo skills this year. She has attended the monthly GB
development weekends at Collingwood Dock. During the Polo season, she played
for LCC in Polo League Division 3, in which we finished a creditable third
place. She also played for LCC in the Hull international tournament. Meanwhile,
she's played in GB development teams in the Liverpool international and in
the five-day Belfast Junior International, where her team finished in first
place in the “silver stream”. |
Laura has paddled on the junior sessions in the docks
consistently throughout the year, both in good weather and bad. She is
friendly and gets on well with others. Laura is supportive of younger
paddlers. Laura is a very determined paddler and was pleased to
beat her siblings in the West Kirby Race! She has more recently been enjoying
Junior Canoe Polo sessions and continues to develop her paddling skills. |

|
|
|
Luke Evans |
Harvey Harwood |
Marcus Smith |
Luke has paddled on the junior sessions in the docks
consistently throughout the year, both in good weather and bad. He has been
practising capsizing and T-rescues.
Luke enjoyed the West Kirby Race held in July. Luke has been really enjoying the Junior Canoe Polo
sessions demonstrating his throwing and shooting skills. |
I nominate Harvey Harwood for young paddler. He's an
excellent freestyle paddler and has really developed his skills over the past
year. He's matured into a great young man and was also on the GB squad for
World freestyle championships. He is the freestyle coordinator and regularly paddles
at Llangollen, Holme Pierrepont and local surf spots in the region and Wales. |
Marcus has been a regular paddler at Junior Club over
the last couple of years. He has really developed confidence in his paddling
and relationships with other paddlers. Marcus joins in all sessions
enthusiastically. He has paddled both in the docks and at the winter pool
sessions, where he practised capsizing and T-rescues. Marcus really enjoyed
the Junior Anglesey weekend and has more recently been enjoying the Junior
Canoe Polo sessions. |
2022 Nominations for Volunteer of the Year (Club member who has given their services to help the club) |
||
|
|
|
Richard Clews |
Josh Cook |
Kevin Corcoran |
Richard
is an active, enthusiastic volunteer. He restarted Junior Club after lockdown
and has relentlessly strived to keep it running smoothly, organising
and leading sessions. Richard has introduced many new juniors to the club and
works hard to provide fun, relevant sessions to develop the skills of all
juniors. It’s
difficult to identify just one volunteer but Richard has been involved with
both parents and juniors from our tentative starts in the pool, to fun Sunday
sessions and memorable trips to the river Dee and Anglesey. Thanks Richard! |
Josh
has been the Polo coordinator for 5 years and he has been organising Polo
training sessions every week. Josh is approachable, enthusiastic
and helpful. He wants people to enjoy Polo and loves coaching. He has organised the entries for the LCC
teams into national leagues 2 and 3 and the Hull and Liverpool international
tournaments. Josh has recently set up the weekly Junior Polo training
sessions. |
Kevin consistently runs 2 Paddle Fit sessions every
week, whatever the weather. He is committed to getting new paddlers on the
water and consistently provides advice on paddling techniques. His sessions involve many different skills and drills.
Most recently Kevin has included rescue techniques, developing paddlers
further. |

|
|
Dave and Fiona Gentle |
David Hendry |
Chris Marsden |
I
would like to nominate Dave and Fiona Gentle as joint winners of this Award.
Since I’ve been with the club, they have run multiple trips on river and sea
in both Canoe and Kayak. Encouraging people to get out there and experience
what we all strive to see. |
I nominate
David Hendry for Volunteer of the year as he is always putting on sessions at
the dock, probably more than any other volunteer in the past year. He has organised a camping trip for the
paddleboarders on Ullswater and has encouraged so many club members onto the
water. |
Chris
is the Club’s Paddleability Coordinator and has
provided a pathway into the club for numerous paddlers with
disabilities. He has organised
numerous introductory sessions as well as running frequent white water trips
providing opportunities for many club members of all abilities. He
demonstrates many positive qualities, and his love of the sport is clear to
see. |

|
|
|
|
|
Adya Misra |
Martin Sinnott |
|
Adya is our SUP coordinator and has introduced many to
Stand Up Paddleboarding as well as running many kayaking coaching
sessions. Adya is an ambassador for
female paddlesports within the club and British
Canoeing. She has also been promoting many new specialist coaching
sessions to our calendar to encourage and develop paddling for our
members. These include offering
confidence-building and “women of colour” sessions. Her coaching skills are
excellent as is her friendly and positive approach. |
Marty
Sinnott has bags of enthusiasm and has encouraged many into the sport. He has been particularly active in
promoting sessions from the compound at the docks and the Saturday morning
rolling sessions. These have allowed
many to practise their rolling and rescue skills. More
recently he has been a regular to the club pool sessions helping to introduce
many new members to the water and guiding those needing help with their
rolling. |
